Harris Chain of Lakes
Lake County, Florida's Chain of Lakes is known as the "Harris Chain of Lakes" or the "Ocklawaha Chain of Lakes." Comprising nine lakes that cover more than 75,000 acres, the Chain of Lakes is located approximately 30 miles north of Orlando.Taking its nickname from the largest of these lakes, Lake Harris, the nine Central Florida lakes offer a wonderland of natural beauty, exciting recreational opportunities, fishing and water sports.A world-class fishing spot that has been featured on ESPN, weekly bass fishing tournaments are held at the Harris Chain, which is on the B.A.S.S. Lake Harris & Little Lake Harris -
Part of the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin and a St. Johns River sub-basin, Lake Harris is Lake County, Florida's largest lake at 13,788 acres and has another smaller lake that adjoins it, which is called "Little Lake Harris." Great for water skiing, fishing jet skiing and boating, the total area of the two lakes is more than 15,000 acres. -
Lakes Dora, Carlton and Beauclair -
Lake Carlton, Lake Dora and Lake Beauclair are known together as the "East Harris Chain Lakes" and cover more than 4,450 acres. Connected to Lake Eustis and Lake Apopka, the East Harris Chain Lakes are home to the charming cities of Tavares and Mount Dora on Lake Dora, which is the home of the annual Antique Boat Show in the spring. Lake Beauclair and Lake Carlton are just south of Lake Dora. Lake Carlton is the tiniest of the East Harris Chain Lakes and is reached through Lake Beauclair. -
Lake Eustis -
Lake Eustis is connected to Big Lake Harris and Lake Dora. Surrounded by residential canals that are fertile fishing grounds, Lake Eustis is home to a delightful array of waterfront restaurants, including the original Dead River Vic's Restaurant. -
Lake Griffin State Park -
Lake Griffin flows through the Ocala National Forest and stretches for seven miles. With two flood locks on either end of Lake Griffin, the lake water levels can be regulated and the lake is known for being a good place to catch bass.
